How to Maintain Dance Over the Summer!

Since the 2023-2024 season of dance has ended, dance students have all had summer break.  After all the recitals, dress rehearsals, and weekly classes, dancers are able to relax and go on vacation with their families.  However, since the new season of dance is approaching, parents and dancers alike may be wondering how to prepare.  An easy way to do this is by maintaining dance over the summer, to prepare your body and mind to get into another season.

Maintaining dance is incredibly useful to prepare for a season, and there are many ways to do it.  The simplest way is to start stretching more often.  Dancers can do this method in the morning to help wake up, before bed to remove bodily stress, or any other time of the day.  Stretching has many benefits beyond dance and can be done anywhere, meaning that it is possible to do when traveling.  However, if you are home or looking for more complex ways to maintain dance, one way is to practice skills from classes.  By practicing these skills you will prepare your body for the work you perform during dance.  This will prevent any injuries and ensure that you are ready to continue dancing and learning on the first day back to the studio.

Though if you are looking for a more guided way to practice, there’s always the option of taking summer dance classes.  These can include masterclasses, pop-up classes, or summer technique classes.  By signing up for these classes, you can get back into the flow of dance classes and learn how to improve your dancing along the way.  Having a teacher in the room is an incredibly helpful way to maintain dance and prepare for the season, as they ensure you are learning something and practicing the correct way.  If you want to sign up for some of these classes, The Next Step School of Dance is holding some summer pop-up classes in the studio.  There are four sessions, and two types of classes that are being held.  These are Stretch & Strength classes, and Leaps & Turns classes, on August 13th and August 15th.  You can sign up for these classes at https://forms.gle/UtDrDkzCoUg3uuc36 and fil out the form.

By doing these methods, you can ensure a safe and healthy transition back into the new dance season.  These methods can not only prepare you, but also keep your body and mind healthy.  You may start to feel happier, and your body will be filled with much more energy.  Maintaining dance by stretching, practicing, taking classes, and many other methods can all bring these positive results.  As the new dance season comes closer, this will help you get into the flow of classes again and be your best possible self.
